Cooper spoke with Hannah-Jones during UNC saga, laments governance issues at state universities
Travis Fain, WRAL — Gov. Roy Cooper spoke twice to Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones during the saga that culminated earlier this month with her decision not to join the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, his office confirmed Tuesday. The governor “let her know that he hoped tenure would be granted, that her university and many of her fellow alumni were proud to stand with her, and that he thought she would be an important and valuable addition to the faculty,” Cooper spokesman Ford Porter said in an email.
